So i have been reading up on general views about truth. in a world with so much room for error can truth exist? well that depends on who you are asking. ask someone who measures truth by group consensus. if we all say its truth than it must be. this is a pre-socractic thought. Plato would say to that statement,,, well then we if all agree man can fly than can a man fly? NO! so i suggest you research plato, hume, neitzsche and others to find what might fit for you.
i look forward to May 6th meeting.

It was great to meet you and the group on the 6th!
ReplyDeleteSince we will be dealing with "morality and justice" on what basis will such concepts be based? This of course touches on the previous topic regarding absolutes.
One moral system says "Love your neighbor" while another affirms "Eat your neighbor." Now what?
Is this conversation going to go beyond opinion?
well morals are based upon opinion. the moral spectrum is huge. the very question you ask here is the very reason why we are focusing on this. Religious people face this all the time. Natural Law vs Governmental Law. Natural Law stems from a religious moral based. what does a person do when their morals are being infringed upon by their government? depends on your level of conviction?
